September 28, 2023Wood Supplier Chooses Aluminum to Secure Their Facility
When Boise Cascade® built a new distribution facility in Walton, Kentucky, an important decision needed to be made about how to secure their property while also enhancing its appearance.
Wright Contracting had been hired as the general contractor and under the guidance of their representative, Randy Reno, they were fortunate that they didn’t have to look far to find a company to handle the perimeter fencing.
“I’ve worked with R&M Fence several times over the years,” says Reno. “And it just so happens that their facility is directly across the street from this project, so it was seamless, from a service perspective.”
R&M Fence is a Walton, Kentucky-based fence contractor and supplier in business since 1999. They install all types of fencing as well as servicing other fence contractors through their wholesale division.
Since they had worked together on previous projects, Charlene Gripshover and Ryan Nunn from R&M knew what to expect from Wright Contracting, but like any large fence project, there were several elements to discuss, such as right-of-way clearance for the neighboring railroad, grade issues that would impact gates and working together for approval through Boone County planning and zoning.
Fortunately, one decision didn’t need discussion, which was the company who would supply the fence. “Ultra Aluminum has been our supplier since we started,” says Gripshover. “We knew that their industrial-grade fence would provide us the highest quality while keeping within the customer’s budget.”
Ultra Aluminum manufactures and distributes a full line of aluminum fence, gates and code approved railing for residential, commercial, and industrial applications throughout North America. They are a whole-owned subsidiary of Deckorators®, a UFP Industries company.
“Ease of installation is important when doing large projects,” says Nunn. “Whether the job is across the state or across the street, getting my crews in and out as quickly as possible is good for my business and good for the customer.”
After working with Boise Cascade representative Mark Nelson to discuss some of the finer details of the project, work began on installing 2100’ of Ultra’s 7’ tall UAF-200 4-rail fence. Two 30’ gate openings would typically call for cantilever slide gates, but the decision was made to use swing gates due to grade and clearance issues.
“Ultra has always made a very strong gate and we’ve installed quite a few large ones over the years, so we were confident that it was the right choice for this job,” says Gripshover.
The project was completed by a five-person crew in less than seven days.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to know Charlene and Ryan for many years,” says Ben Jodoin from Ultra Aluminum. “They’ve played a big part in Ultra’s success. Not only do they have a great business, but they also happen to be great people. It’s no wonder that they’ve become one of the leading fence companies in the state.”
With security being a growing problem throughout the country, sometimes the solution to the problem is right in front of you, or in this case, just across the street.
